However, they're starting
over with a new concept - the CW - and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who
have created successful teenage dramas. Yes, you read that right, teenage. You know, like Nancy Drew! The
concept sounds so intriguing. It's such an original idea- well, mostly original to
Hollywood anyways, not to loyal readers of teenage sleuth Nancy Drew for generations since 1930.
It's so brilliantly original, that it's surely bound to work, right? Stay tuned.....
If you can't tell, I'm quite psyched about it! Totally on board. I mean, Hollywood! Your Mystery's IT Girl has been under your nose all along - she's bold, brave, daring, independent, classy, smart and sophisticated. She's
not flawed in ways that don't inspire us. She's fantasy entertainment. She's not bumbling, she's not
a fish out of water, she's not an outsider on the fringe. She's a well-rounded well-liked girl and she is a mystery magnet. Romance is subtle. Mystery is her true love. These are the things that are beloved about her. So, stick with those characteristics no matter how modern the
setting, and you can't go terribly wrong.
Most important, Nancy Drew's got moxie and she gets things done - solving the most baffling of mysteries and she has motivated generations of girls and boys to better themselves. Including Supreme Court Justices like Sonia Sotomayor, who cites Nancy Drew as an influence. All the women who have been on the Supreme Court do. Go figure...
