2011 Book Hunting for Nancy Drew #4

Book Hunting Adventures with Sleuth Gina

Gina came to visit to help with planning on the 2012 Nancy Drew & Sleuth Con Conventions and we spent some time running around book hunting. Above are 4 finds Gina made at Alcuin Books in Scottsdale, AZ.

Here were my overall finds from all the bookstores - Nancy Drew books (format 11 blue 30s silhouette Shadow Ranch and a 1st printing of the 2nd art for Bungalow Mystery), a Dana Girls book, an old flight/stewardess series, Uncle Wiggily book for my mom and Roger Garis's My Father Was Uncle Wiggily plus a first of the Nancy Drew Scrapbook and Mildred Wirt's The Shadow Stone. For Dean I found a Hardy Boys puzzle.

Don't worry Sleuths we left a ton of books for you for next March :-)

Antique Mall finds in Apache Junction, AZ

Gina spots a Cherry Ames

Book Vault in Mesa, AZ

Half-Price Books in Mesa, AZ

A set of 29 Brown Hardy Boys for $40.00

A random find in a paperback exchange bookstore!

Book Gallery in Mesa, AZ - lots of series

UK Hardy Boys spotted

Beverly Gray listing to itself and thick for $30

Gina searches for paperbacks at Bookman's

Alcuin Books has lots of old vintage series with most in dust jacket from Tom Swift to Penny Parker to everything in between!

Book Gallery in Phoenix, AZ had a lot of series as well and these had just arrived to the store!

Lots of early and nicer/pricier ones

Lots more on the shelves in back

Nancy Drew Cameos, White Spines, tons of Judy Boltons and more...

We had a lot of fun and found that there's a nice variety of vintage series just waiting to be discovered in the Phoenix area!

Nancy Drew Books: Scary Things Kids (& Adults) Do #12

HYPERS! I'm not sure, but this may just be one of the worst things I've seen thus far in my Scary Things Kids (& Adults) Do series of blogs.

When I saw this listing at eBay I laughed and shook my head. Some little monster took a sharpie or marker and wrote all over the inside of the dust jacket as you can see it shows above and then below. You can buy it now for $4.99 in all its glory.

Looks like they wrote all the names of their buddies down like Mike, Bill, and Phil--rhyming buddies perhaps. They even knew John Hancock! WOW. And of course Kathy and Tom. And maybe Dan with the smiley face inside the D. My bet is Kathy is the culprit since it's the only girls' name here and she was listing her boyfriends she was stalking around the playground.

Just for good measure, she added more names to the endpapers in case the dust jacket didn't cut it...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!

2011 Book Hunting for Nancy Drew #3

I was traveling through Albuquerque and decided to stop at a favorite spot for vintage series books, Page One Bookstore - they have a rare/antique book room you have to buzz to get into and there's always something in there plus outside the room is several shelves of vintage series too. And then there's the regular kids section that has new and some used books too. I almost didn't stop as my mom and I were headed home from her art show and needed to beat some snow conditions before dark, but we dashed in for a quick look and boy was I glad...

When I got the 80th promotional kit for Nancy Drew with the stand up cardboard Nancy and the poster and buttons, my kit didn't have the shelf talker--shown above are 2 of them. The one we auctioned off in VA had one in the kit, so I was sad at missing out on it. They had 2 on the shelf at Page One so I asked if I could buy one of them and they gave it to me, which was very kind! They are very friendly and helpful at this store. You can check them out at 11018 Montgomery St at the SW corner of Juan Tabo. Their number is: (505) 294-2026. Click here for their website.

In the book room they had a set of 1-22 Cherry Ames in Dust Jacket for $300.00 but they are on sale right now for 20% off making them $240.00 if anyone is interested contact them above.

I spotted a Penny Nichols book on the shelf.

They also had quite a few boys' series including some of these Rick Brant books. I saw some Three Investigators, Tom Swift, and Beverly Gray as well as other various series books.

I purchased a #15 (final book in series) Betty Gordon and the Mystery Girl in DJ--Russell H. Tandy illustrated this one and I collect books that he illustrated. It was only $20.00.

Happy Halloween Nancy Fans & Thanks

I wanted to thank all of you for coming to my Nancy Drew Blog party all month long! It was fun and I hope you enjoyed it :) Thanks for all the great comments! I didn't get a chance to reply as much as I would have liked, it's been so hectic with all the party planning and Halloween stuff going on.

Hope to blog here more often so check back often and see what's going on in the world of Drew :)

Hope you all had a fabulous Halloween! Tonight we had 161 trick or treaters, so I gave out a lot of loot bags to the kids! Hope you had a good turnout.
