G&D Q' & A'
Q' 1: What led Penguin to do a redesign of the classic Nancy Drew covers?
Although the editions with the 1950-70s covers are iconic and sell incredibly well, we decided to create new editions that had cover art that harked back to the era in which the books were originally written. And we’re hoping these new editions bring a new audience to Nancy Drew.
Q' 2: Will Penguin be doing any more redesigned covers for books #5 onward?
We certainly hope so!
Q' 3: What has been the response Penguin has received on the style of the new covers?
Retailers
and readers have responded incredibly well to the new covers; people
have remarked on how stylish and beautiful they are, and how collectible
they make the books feel.
Q' 4: Will Penguin be doing anything for the upcoming 85th anniversary of Nancy Drew?
We will be making a big splash for the 100th Anniversary!
(They have no big plans before the 100th, but stay tuned here for any possible future projects that might come up.)
Q' 5: Will there be a similar redesign for the Hardy Boys classic covers?
We’re considering it. So stay tuned!

Bungalow is very Miss Fisher from here in Aus, but my fave is Lilac Inn because it has my two fave colours, pink and blue. It's prettiest, I think.
Mystery at Lilac Inn. I like the colors, very purply and warm and cool looking. :)
Bungalow Mystery
Mystery at Lilac Inn. Love the colors. My name is Reyes Couch.
My favorite cover art of the four is The Secret of the Old Clock. I like it because Nancy looks so classy in her blue dress and cloche hat. I know she is dressed very similar on all four cover but something about the light blue and brown just makes this cover stand out to me. I love all four covers though and the new art makes me want to collect these as well as the older ones.~Jennifer Prince
The Bungalow Mystery. The colors are really drawing me in and I just love the old car. Even though I have an old set from a friend, I want to buy these!
The Mystery at Lilac Inn. The cover is gorgeous and mysterious. This was always one of my favorites too ;)
I absolutely love all the covers, but Lilac Inn is my favorite. I absolutely love the colors and the art nouveau feel it has mixed in with a little art deco. Plus it was one of the first Nancy Drew books I read!
The one that pops for me is Hidden Staircase. I like the flow of the spiral of stairs as a background for the image of Nancy. And blue has always been my favorite color.
They are all great. Love the old vintage feel to the covers. The Hidden Staircase is my favorite.
I'm having a cry hard time choosing - I love the gears on Clock (very steampunk) and the swirly stairs in Staircase but I think I'm going to vote for Nancy in her roadster on Bungalow. I like the whoosh of money around the title too. So glad Penguin is considering continuing the trend and commissioning more covers.
I really like The Mystery at Lilac Inn because of the eye-catching colors, but also because it remains one of my favorites in the series.
Love the Bungalow Mystery cover! Also, the gears on Secret of the Old clock--very cool.

I like the secret of the old clock. very steampunk.
These are great--I finally saw them in a store (Books-A-Million. Too bad they didn't do the original stories to go with the covers. They all have a lot of motion, good color, design, but I like The Bungalow Mystery cover because it features Nancy's roadster, which now that I think about it, has never been on a cover before, has it?
cool covers real name Eric Danner
Hidden Staircase, by far, is my favorite. Not only the nostalgic look, but the spiraling staircase gives it a feeling of vertigo that draws the reader into the cover. Love it! Todd Latoski
Its hard picking, since the abstract design of it all is so different from anything the series has had before. My eye favors "Old Clock", it has a more flat art-deco look that the others, and I absolutely love the gears. It almost feels as if it sums up Nancy's race to find the clock before time goes out. IMagine all those gears moving, signifying the urgency of her quest and I find it interesting that her scarf is also the road--- as if the farther the moving truck goes the tighter the proverbial noose gets on Nancy.after all its her first case, it could have been her last. The others seem less inspired, staircase being the coiling stairs, and I'm not sure I understand the symbolism on "Lylic Inn". I do like the clever use of " money trail" in bungalow, but otherwise none of the others strike me as "clock" does.
Very cool. I have to say that my favorite is the Hidden Staircase. The colors are good, and it's giving me a sort of vertigo, but in a good way. I can't wait to buy these!.
I like "Bungalow" art, and also "Old Clock" and "Lilac Inn" I guess I like them all!
It's a tough choice because they're all so lovely, but I'll go with the Hidden Staircase, for the blue and the spiraling.
The Hidden Staircase (it's SO incredibly hard to choose between that one and Secret Of The Old Clock!!!).
I love the feel of it, and the mysterious winding staircase.
I also LOVE what Nancy's wearing (although, Nancy looks stylish on all of the covers).
SO glad you're doing this give-away!!! :)
I like all of them, but I think my favorite would be the cover for The Bungalow Mystery. Green is one of my favorite colors, plus the way the road spirals off makes me think of Nancy endlessly driving. And The Bungalow Mystery certainly had a lot of driving! Plus the way the cobblestones turn into money is fun to look at. It really has a lot of symbolism on the cover!
The Secret Of The Old Clock encapsulates the tone of the series so well. It's definitely my top pick.
The simple, elegant profile of Nancy is iconic - a 21st Century interpretation of the classic silhouette. Love the nods to her Russell H Tandy roots with the hat and scarf, while her dress looks
Nancy's focus and alertness is apparent from her posture. Having the feminine swirls of her scarf (literally) grounded by the earth tones capture Nancy's personality too. The gears and truck add suspense too.
All four covers are beautiful: The claustrophobic danger of Staircase with the luscious deep teals (teal and red always look great together). Great to see the roadster on The Bungalow Mystery. It's so deco - like a vintage car advertisement or a promotion for road travel, and I adore the contrasting spine, and the way Nancy's peach scarf looks against the green. The rich colours on Lilac Inn are delicious. It has an interesting manga feel to it.
Here's hoping the next volumes are with us soon…
